Simon Freeman's review of Roger McCough's Pavilion Theatre appearance (April 8), mentioned fellow Liverpudlian poet Adrian Henri. Alas, he is with us no more.
Back in the heady days of the summer of 1969, I went, with a hippy girl, to see Led Zeppelin, Blodwyn Pig and Adrian's Liverpool Scene at the Albert Hall.
However, from the audience's reaction, perhaps the billing should have been reversed.
Led Zep were predictable, Blodwyn innovative and the Scene a real show stealer.
Two numbers remain in mind: The burlesque Do The Woo Woo and the scathing Enoch.
If my memory serves me, the latter included the lyrics: You make me feel like a Fascist git, Enoch. You make me feel like a load of s***, Enoch!
Not exactly Tennyson but a pretty accurate reflection of the opinion most of us held toward Powell's racist doctrine.
I've a good memory for faces and I am almost certain a long-haired Tony Blair was sitting next to me. We were both in our mid-teens. Were you there, Tony?
