Much has been shown and written about that wonderful lady the late Queen Mother.
During the Second World War, in 1944, I attended my investiture at Buckingham Palace, to be personally decorated by King George VI.
On leaving the room, the Queen Mother was waiting to congratulate the recipients (16 in all). When she confronted me, she held out her hand.
I took it into mine and said: "Ma'am, would you give me the honour of allowing me to kiss the back of your hand?"
She replied: "Oh, no, Flying Officer Bradley, by all means kiss the back of my hand, but you will give me the honour."
What, indeed, a very gracious lady.
