East Grinstead's Steve Dennis started a successful Easter for Sussex riders by winning the Crawley Wheelers 46-mile hilly time trial in a record 1hr.47min.4sec.

Also making the top ten were Dave Pollard (In Gear), fourth in 1hr.51min.4sec, Dave Shepherd (Rother Valley) fifth in 1hr.51min.26sec and Tristan Court, of Brighton Mitre, who was eighth in 1hr.52min.40sec.

Dennis then teamed up with clubmate Mark Beaumont and they won the South-Eastern 25-mile hilly two-up event at Cranleigh.

James Dear (Eastbourne Rovers) won Brighton Mitre's hilly ten-mile time trial at Kirdford in 23min.31sec, beating Twickenham star Stewart Jardine by 36 seconds. Malcolm Horner (Warrington) placed third in 24min.12sec.

Court was one second slower in fourth place. Jay Chisnall and Tim Holmes backed up Court to give Brighton Mitre victory in the team event.

Susan Uncles (Worthing Excelsior) won the women's race in 29min.30sec.

Dear said: "I will be changing clubs shortly. I have one more race in Eastbourne colours and then I am joining the In Gear club.

"The club is going to back a five-man elite squad that we hope will be a force to be reckoned with in the top events."

Hastings rider Peter Tadross (Interbike) had a clear-cut victory in Brighton Mitre's tough 25-mile time trial on Easter Monday. The last two-and-a-half miles climbed from Poynings to the top of Saddlescombe Hill.

Tadross, the last rider to start, clocked 58min.43sec. Court, who set 1hr.2min.12sec, was relegated to second place. Brian Molloy (Epsom) recorded 1hr.2min.37sec for third.

Dave Dent (GS Stella) finished fourth in 1hr.2min.43sec and three times winner Mark Jones was fifth in 1hr.3min.3sec.

Steve Woodbridge's 1hr.5min.21sec completed Stella's winning team.

Sussex riders also shone in two bunched races. Marina Bloom (Crawley Wheelers) won the 30-mile women's circuit race at Goodwood, while Brighton Mitre's Stuart Fahey finished close second behind Warwick Spence (Bikeparts) in the Surrey League's 50-mile road race.
