I had always regarded any comments made in The Argus about the Royal Sussex County Hospital with a mixture of scepticism and detachment until recently, when I had a first-hand experience.
It left me in no doubt of the professionalism, caring and selfless dedication of all staff there, from nurses and surgeons to consultants and cleaning staff.
I had never been admitted to a hospital before and it came as a shock when I had to be admitted to the medical assessment unit after experiencing chest pains.
From there, I was transferred to the cardiac unit, where further tests were made to ascertain the problem.
The week I spent there opened my eyes and I have a much richer understanding of the way these dedicated people ceaselessly work, day and night, to save and improve our lives.
I would like to extend my most heartfelt thanks to all staff, in particular to those who so tirelessly took care of me at a time of great need.
