Rye and Iden won the County League's Division Two Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win over a disappointing Eastbourne Town side.

A below strength Town, without three regular players who were cup-tied, were never given the chance to get into their stride by a more experienced, no-nonsense Rye team.

Town manager Dave Winterton admitted after last night's final at the Beaconsfield, Hailsham: "We didn't really give them a game."

Defences dominated a match of few chances but it was Rye who always looked the most dangerous.

A dismal first-half was brought to life by a tremendous run by Sean Ray in the 22nd minute.

He picked up a clearance following a Town corner and ran 40 yards with the ball before being finally foiled by the legs of Eastbourne keeper Andy Young.

Three minutes later Rye took the lead.

Young failed to gather Paul Tuppenny's deflected free-kick and the ball was hacked away as far as Scott Price, who side stepped a Town defender before firing into the corner of the net.

Town looked more determined after the interval but Rye keeper Oliver Oxley was rarely tested and Sean Loft's 70th minute goal proved the killer.

Young failed to get to Ray's cross and Loft hooked the ball home.
