Peter Rumney's call for a second reunion of the King Alfred (Letters, March 23) before the structure is bulldozed did not mention the concern that any memorabilia in the building be preserved either in the new building or in Hove Town Hall, where the Sussex Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR) memorial is at present.
The centenary of the RNVR in 2003 would be an appropriate time for Brighton and Hove City Council to mark the occasion in a way involving not just the King Alfred survivors but all those who served in Sussex Division RNVR (later RNR) which, at one time, had subdivisions in Newhaven, Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings and which was granted the Freedom of the Borough of Hove in 1977.
