We were amazed to hear that Worthing Borough Council has allowed a commercial venture to go ahead on Broadwater Green over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend, thus effectively stopping residents from celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee as planned.
The traders have refused to share the green on June 3. There is nowhere else suitable.
Since Broadwater Traders' Association has very close ties to the local community association, we were helping with the celebrations planned to take place, as was the local fire brigade, among others.
We fail to understand how the council cannot rectify this while there is still time. Surely it is more important to celebrate our sovereign's special day than to save face at the council office. Obviously a mistake has been made.
-Mrs Penny Keen, Chairwoman, Broadwater Traders' Association, Worthing
