A 20-year-old man was still assisting police with their inquiries today in connection with the murder of Danny Collard.

A second man, in his 20s, has been released on bail.

The two men were picked up by police in Brixton, south London, on Monday evening.

House-to-house interviews were continuing today in the area where Danny died after being stabbed in the heart and police billboards were put up appealing for information.

Meanwhile, a special Mass was held at Cardinal Newman School in Hove, where the 20-year-old used to be a pupil.

His mother Ann, of Upper Bevendean Avenue, Brighton, attended the service.

Last night she went to the scene of Friday's attack at the junction of Southdown Avenue and Springfield Road, Brighton, to lay a tribute to her son.

She said: "I lay awake in the night and wrote it then. The flowers people have put at the scene have been lovely.

"I must have received 50 bouquets at home and four walls are covered with cards."

She said staff at TSB in Brighton, where Danny worked, were planning a "dress down" day to raise money for sick and disabled people from the Arundel and Brighton Roman Catholic diocese to visit Lourdes, trips Danny supported.

Mrs Collard has taken her autistic son Joseph, 16, to Lourdes.

She said: "Four of Danny's friends have volunteered to take his place in the London marathon. He was running it to raise money for Mencap."

Danny died after an evening out with friends at the Hare and Hounds pub in Preston Circus, Brighton.

He was walking home at 9.45pm when he was attacked.

Police are appealing for anyone in the area at the time to contact the Operation Parapet incident room at Brighton police station on 0845 6070999.
