The King Alfred site is barely big enough to accommodate the leisure facilities Brighton and Hove is lacking, even before any land is lost to housing.
In Guildford, the Spectrum centre has a swimming pool, training pool, diving pool, leisure pool with wave machine, flumes, tyre slide and so on, 32-lane ten-pin bowling, squash courts, gym, creche, sports halls and an Olympic-size ice rink that is home to the Guildford Flames ice hockey team.
All this in one neat building and not a block of flats in sight.
