I live at the top of a steep hill in Saltdean with shops on either side.

There is no car park, which means one's views up and down the hill are restricted, especially if there is a bus or lorry parked.

I am setting up a petition for better pavements and a crossing at the top of the hill.

Some people tried writing to Lewes District Council but the only reply was to tell me my letter had been forwarded to East Sussex County Council.

That's where the problem lies - the east side of Saltdean comes under Lewes and the west side under Sussex.

According to our local postman, several attempts over the years have come to nothing.

I have fallen and, three weeks ago, one of my friends fell for the second time and is now housebound.

What do we have to do before there is a fatal accident?

I am 84 and I am tough but there are many in Saltdean who are not.

Could these council employees get off their backsides, get a pair of scissors and cut some red tape?
