Since The Argus report (March 13) regarding Miss Frances Whitehouse and Sussex Police said "a previous complaint by her had been rejected by the PCA", to set the record straight I must point out five of the complaints were substantiated.
Officers received "advice" (an oral warning) for not making sufficient inquiries at the scene of the incident and for failing to give careful consideration to whether or not Miss Whitehouse was a victim of assault.
Other officers also received advice and written warnings for failing to monitor files related to Miss Whitehouse's case and for failing to complete witness details.
Miss Whitehouse's complaint that Sussex Police leaked information to the Press was substantiated.
It was furthermore substantiated that notifying her father about her arrest without her permission breached Miss Whitehouse's rights and the officer concerned received advice.
