One person has been killed and another is fighting for life after their van was involved in a crash with a bus.

The smash, between a Bedford Astra van and a Brighton and Hove bus, happened in Old Shoreham Road, Hove, at the junction with Holmes Avenue.

Firefighters spent half an hour cutting both victims from the crushed vehicle after the smash, at about 11.15pm yesterday.

The passenger in the van was killed. Its driver was badly injured and taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

One person on the Number Five bus, believed to be the driver, was slightly hurt. No one else is thought to have been on board.

Police have not so far released the identities of those involved.
