I dare say Dean Martin's outstanding letter concerning road tax dodgers (Letters, March 8) echoed the sentiments of most people when he said it was the duty of law-enforcers to upset as many lawbreakers as possible, bringing them all to book and leaving it for the courts to decide guilt or innocence.

All registered owners of vehicles receive DVLA reminders that road tax is due, so what extenuating excuses can there be for Sergeant Tony Lamb not applying the law equally across the board?

And reading the report (The Argus, February 15) with a picture of a pyramid on Brighton racecourse of 200 cars, it is plain to see the hard-hitting campaign promised in 2000 by Sussex Police, the DVLA and Brighton and Hove City Council to wipe out further tax evasion after the purge then was pure fiction, as the record 180 reported caught on the Whitehawk estate testifies.

Now we read again of similar promises from all concerned after the latest purge.
