Urgent action is needed to move street drinkers from St Peter's churchyard, says a Brighton and Hove city councillor.
Drinkers are using the grounds of St Peter's, the parish church of Brighton, as a meeting place.
Green councillor Keith Taylor said increasing numbers were congregating there, probably because of a new bylaw banning drinking in much of Kemp Town, including St James's Street.
A fight on Friday resulted in serious injuries to one man who was taken to hospital.
Coun Taylor said: "The drinkers are making life intolerable for the church and dangerous for its users and passers-by."
