A drug addict tried to resuscitate a baby boy who died in his care, a court heard.
Aaron Goodman denies murdering one-year-old Sam Back, the son of his partner, Emma Back.
Goodman, 27, of Church Road, St Leonards, said he found the child dead, apparently of cot death.
In police statements read to the jury at Lewes Crown Court yesterday, Goodman described the moment he found Sam.
He said: "As I picked him I felt he was freezing cold. I tried to resuscitate him.
"I don't know how long for - it seemed like forever. I was calling him and I shook him a bit, I kept doing the mouth-to-mouth then I stuck my fingers into his mouth to see if he was choking on something.
"I just kept calling him. I was angry he would not wake up."
The court heard a week later Sam's body had not been delivered to the undertaker.
Goodman denies murder. Back denies wilful neglect and conspiracy to prevent a burial.
The trial continues.
