I disagree with Jason Woodward on poor-quality student accommodation in Brighton and Hove (The Argus, February 21).

Last year, finding myself with a large house and not liking the idea of living alone in it, I decided I would take three university students.

I put in new beds, carpets, a microwave, washing machine, gas stove and fridge-freezer.

After two months, they decided to go with three other students to rent a house together. All they paid me each was £55 a week, including heating and hot water.

Never again will I do this. The whole place was disgusting - filth everywhere, wallpaper ripped off where they had put posters up, all the mattresses stained.

They never cleaned the kitchen or bathroom, they blew up the microwave, broke the washing machine and never once cleaned the stove or kitchen floor.

I've spoken to lots of people about this and the answer has been the same: Never put students in luxury because they never look after their lodgings.

I can understand landlords putting them in substandard accommodation.

It cost me more than £2,500 just for three students for two months.

They should build more campus accommodation and let the universities deal with the mess.
