Fire raged through a derelict block of flats in Littlehampton early today.
Crews battled for more than three hours to put out the blaze in Clun Road.
The roof of the three-storey block collapsed and the third floor was badly damaged.
The 18 flats were being demolished.
Police and fire services are investigating the cause of the fire.
A police spokeswoman said nobody was found in the building.
