A strike-hit train company continued to run extra services today in a bid to break the impact of a continuing strike.

Workers for South West Trains are involved in a bitter dispute with management over pay and disciplinary procedures.

The company said an extra 50 trains were in operation yesterday on top of 600 which were laid on - around a third of its normal services.

There were 12 extra services today as managers continued to replace striking guards and other members of staff on trains across South East England and into London's Waterloo station.

The company said that if the next round of strikes went ahead on February 12 and 13 about 800 trains would run, half the normal daily total.
