Worthing ended a poor run of results with an important 3-2 success away to Ashford.

The match saw four players sent off but one of them, John Massie, returned later on to hit the matchwinner with a penalty flick.

Mark Duncan gave Worthing a half time lead only for Ashford to draw level after the interval. Skipper Simon Holloway restored the advantage after good work from Andy Allan. Ashford equalised again but Worthing took the points with Massie's penalty after Andy Gough was fouled.

The home side were awarded a penalty of their own late on but keeper Daniel Godsmark saved to ensure victory for Worthing.

Crawley conceded a last minute goal to lose 2-1 at home to Gillingham Anchorians. A strong start saw Crawley take the lead on 12 minutes when Keith Frimley smashed the ball into the D and it took a deflection off a defender's stick before falling to Terry Higgs to fire home his 12th league goal of the season.

Gillingham levelled on 25 minutes and both sides had chances in the second half, with Stuart Donaldson and Adrian Shuttleworth going close for Crawley.

Gillingham scored with the last touch of the game, much to the dismay of player-coach Higgs. He said: "We outplayed the opposition for long periods of the game and to come away with no points, well there's no justice."

Mid Sussex went down 4-0 away to Blackheath.

Meanwhile, in Kent/Sussex division one, Eastbourne became the first team to take a point off leaders Maidstone this season following a 1-1 draw.Dominic Barnes put Eastbourne ahead but Maidstone levelled before half time.

Steve Alcock scored twice for Crowborough as they lost 6-2 at home to BBHC.
