Twenty people were evacuated from their homes at a West Sussex caravan park after a fire broke out in a storage shed.

Four propane gas cylinders were discovered in the burning shed by firefighters when they arrived to tackle the blaze.

The alarm was raised by residents at Climping Park at Littlehampton just before 7pm on Friday.

Fire crews from Littlehampton and Arundel cleared people from the homes around the shed while they took out the cylinders and cooled them down.

The shed was nearly destroyed by the fire and part of an empty house close by was slightly damaged.

The fire was put out and the cylinders removed after an hour but crews stayed at the scene for the rest of the evening to make sure the area was safe.

Investigations are continuing into the cause of the blaze.
