William Fraser has ruffled my feathers yet again (Letters, November 26). He undermines the work of some animal rights protesters because he says they are not all vegan.

Human beings, sadly, are a flawed species and the journey of life is a big and long learning curve. There is certainly much to learn, particularly on the subject of humans inflicting cruelty. But, surely, it is better to do something about an injustice rather than nothing, just in case there are other injustices of which we do not yet know?

Personally, all the animal rights protesters I know are at least vegetarian, mostly vegan and many, like me, have vegetarian or vegan dogs.

Let's face it, though, the human species, as a whole, is the worst species on the planet, not only because of what we do to the other animal species but because of what we do to our own species and the planet itself.

But each one of us can make a difference and, if multiplied throughout the population, what a difference that would be.

Any fur, food or fun (such as hunting and hare-coursing) derived from the use of animals comes with a heinously high price - that of extreme suffering and a violent and terrifying death for the animals involved (with the exception of eggs from an animal sanctuary such as Hen Heaven, Henfield).

I would appeal to all animal rights protesters (animal lovers and right-thinking people) that vegan is the best way. It is the only real way of being kind to animals. It is morally right, it is healthier and it stops people such as William Fraser having the opportunity to have a pop at us.
