Worthing extended their best winning run of the season to three games by easing into the second round of the Isthmian League Cup with a 2-0 win at Carshalton Athletic.

Rebels repeated last Saturday's league result against the same opponents at the same venue to give caretaker-boss Barry Lloyd the fillip of two straight wins.

Paul Kennett put his side ahead on 14 minutes from the edge of the area after Warren Smart found Mark Burt with a cross field ball.

Rebels' keeper James Wastell preserved Worthing's advantage by producing fine saves in quick succession from Isaac Jackson and Neil Robson just before the interval.

Carshalton were unable to really impose themselves after the break but Gary Elliott was narrowly off target before Gavin Jones sealed Worthing's victory in the last minute.

Lewes lost 3-2 to FA Cup giantkillers and premier division leaders Canvey Island.

The Rooks took the lead on 15 minutes with a strike from Sam Francis.

However, goals from Canvey's Adam Miller on 20 minutes, Lee Bowran on 31 minutes and Mark Stimson two minutes before the break put the Essex side in the driving seat at half time.

In the second half Lewes had the majority of the play and created several chances but an Andy Johnson goal on 63 minutes was their only reward.
