Most of us buy at least some Christmas decorations each year, if only to replace those broken last January when we hastily threw them back into the loft.

If you want to deck your halls online, you can.

If it has to be a real tree, you'll need to go to Christmas Tree Land (.co.uk), which supplies more than 5,500 trees a year, many delivered direct to homes. First, select the tree varieties category to view the six different types of tree available, with prices ranging from £13.55 to £155. Click on the type and size you want and place your order. You'll also find plenty of information on how best to look after your tree and a selection of accessories, like stands, lights and decorations.

The cheapest delivery option costs £11.99 for an unspecified time between 9am and 5pm on the next working day or £20 for the Saturday option.

McCord has a great selection of stylish Christmas accessories, like a red berry topiary tree (£25), wooden reindeer tree decorations (£8 for two) and red velvet place mats (£20 for two).

You'll find these by simply selecting Christmas on their home page. Delivery costs £2.95 and orders may take up to 28 days to arrive.

Take a look at John Lewis' comprehensive range of artificial Christmas trees from £69 to £85, plus rope lights, tree lights, crackers, wreaths and napkin rings. Delivery adds £2.95 to your order and takes about three to five days.

Two alternative, and slightly surprising, sources of decorations provide excellent value.

The Stationery Store has created a special seasonal department for its business customers but there's nothing to stop you or me shopping there, providing we remember to add 17.5 per cent VAT to all the prices shown. Type 'Christmas' in the search box on the home page to reveal artificial trees from £14 plus VAT, some of which come pre-decorated. A particularly groovy fibre optic tree costs £23.99 plus VAT. Look out, too, for the colour-themed tree packs with 34 hanging baubles and bells, a tinsel garland and bead chain for only £14 plus VAT. Delivery is free and your order will arrive on the next working day.

Party Packs supplies the catering and entertainment trade. Look carefully at the pack sizes unless you're doing a lot of entertaining and want 50 crackers.

I found sets of 24 baubles for £4.90 (plus VAT) and a ten-metre beaded garland for £2.55 and much more, including outdoor and indoor lights, banners and trees in all shapes and sizes. Add £5 for delivery, which usually takes three to four days.
