A driver who died in an horrific pile-up near Buxted at the weekend has been named by police.

He was Geoffrey Conway, 68, of Kidlington, Oxford.

Mr Conway was cut free from his Volkswagen Jetta after it was involved in a smash with a skip lorry and another car.

He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Eastbourne District General Hospital at noon on Saturday.

His wife, also in her 60s, suffered fractures to her wrist, ankle and shoulder in the accident.

Two women in a Peugeot car suffered broken legs in the crash, on the A272 between Buxted and Hadlow Down, north of Uckfield.

The driver of the skip lorry was slightly hurt.

There have been two serious accidents at the same spot in the past 18 months.
