Brighton-based Solutions Inc. hopes its forthcoming World Cup jam will produce a song good enough to rally the England team to victory in Japan and Korea next year.

The computer company is keen for people to turn up in numbers to play for England at the day-long event on December 1.

It will bring together musicians, digitial audio enthusiasts and keen amateurs to contribute samples, vocals and instrumental breaks and help sequence it all together.

Although the song will have a tough job rivalling what is tipped to be the official recording by Keith Allen and Ricky Tomlinson, the event will give people, regardless of ability, the chance to learn some of the skills and processes of digitally producing a record.

Experts will be on hand to advise on issues, from sequencing and sampling to sound effects and recording, and the song will be created on Apple Mac computers using specialist audio interfaces and sequencing software.

The jam is one of the first events hosted by the Solutions Music Association (SMA), a user group set up for the local digital community which organises forums, events and product trials.

Membership of the SMA is free and anyone interested in learning more about digital recording or making their contribution to the jam is welcome to join.

Managing director John Barry said: "Our World Cup jam session is the perfect way for everyone to learn a little more about some of the latest digital recording techniques ach-ievable from your desktop computer at home and to have some fun into the bargain."

Sales director Simon Birch said: "World Cup songs seem to spark the British imagination in peculiar ways and have created some of the most unlikely pairings, from the Spice Girls with Echo and The Bunnymen to Damian Hurst with Keith Allen and Alex from Blur.

"We're hoping that there might be some similarly strange Brighton alliances made for our own recording," said John. "How about Norman Cook and Ralph Brown? Now that would be worth listening to."

The company's customers range from recording studios and DJs to students and musicians, including record producer Nigel Bates, whose recent work includes the solo album by former Mike and The Mechanics lead singer Paul Carrack.
