The attacks on Councillor Paul Cosham (Letters, November 23) are completely unwarranted.

He has the right to comment on changes to the highways, as does any other council taxpayer.

What he does not have, as a parish councillor, is any influence on how highways are designed and constructed.

This is the province of the East Sussex County Council which, in this area, is well known for not consulting with the electorate at large.

I feel the time has come for East Sussex County Council to be looked at and the existing councils (parish, district and county) be abolished and amalgamated into a single unitary authority centred on the district council area.

We all know the reorganisation of 1974 was a disaster and this is the way to right a long-standing wrong.
