Nick Nurse has guaranteed Bears fans he will be making a new signing.

But the new recruit will not be the mystery man who sat on the Brighton bench during Sunday's defeat of Derby.

Terry Cooper, an American guard playing in Holland, has been training with Bears while his league take a two-week break for international matches.

Cooper, who had been in contact with director Romek Kriwald, flew over at his own expense for two weeks working out in England before joining Bears for their Trophy match.

Coach Nurse said: "I didn't know much about him but Romek asked if I could use an extra body in training.

"I am scouting more than ever. I guarantee there will be another signing before the deadline on January 31 to help us make a serious run at the Trophy and the league.

"But I am quite happy with what we are doing at the moment. The seven guys are doing their jobs well."

Bears face a crunch Trophy game on Thursday at London Leopards, who have won their last six matches.
