A fashion company is so sure UK youngsters think "Brighton Rocks" that it has splashed the slogan over a range of teen fashion.

Market research by The Gear discovered Brighton and Hove's image as The Place To Be had spread through youth culture.

Teenagers from London to Glasgow want to show they are part of the city's phenomenon, enhanced by its image as a hot nightspot and "in" seaside resort.

Millions of young people could soon be wearing fashionable hats and sweaters with the Brighton Rocks logo as stores across the UK cash in on the city's popularity.

Chart-toppers S Club 7 have shown an interest and could wear the gear at their next photo shoot.

The city's image has been boosted by the likes of dance guru Norman Cook, alias Fatboy Slim, who lives in Hove with TV star wife Zoe Ball.

He brought international attention to the city by staging a massive dance event on the beach during the summer.

Other celebrities such as Emma Bunton, of Spice Girls fame, and comedy actor Mark Little have moved to the city while Oasis star Noel Gallagher has often visited.

Damien Hopkins, chief executive of London-based The Gear, said: "Brighton is the place.

"It's the hip, happening seaside city and all teenagers think it's a cool place to hang out. It is very now.

"There was Ibiza and before that it was Manchester and now it's Brighton's turn.

"There is a lot of Sixties revival in the fashion market and a lot of the Mod culture is coming back with the youth of today and that has a lot of association with Brighton."

High Street names such as John Lewis and major catalogues such as Kays and Choices have taken up the range to sell nationwide.

The Gear is selling the outfits on its retail web site, allthegear.com, and is also planning to promote the clothing abroad, believing Brighton's name is well known throughout the world.
