Linda Lewyckyj (Letters, November 9) complained about the skating rink that has been set up at Brighton Marina.

She might like to know the Sussex Square rink is real ice and cheaper to use.

Since the beginning of this year, there has been an ice arena developer waiting for an invitation from Brighton and Hove City Council to discuss what he could offer (at no cost to the public purse).

Despite regular meetings with the leisure and regeneration department, a formal question to the full council (still not answered after three months) and numerous phone calls, nothing has happened.

There are three possible sites for an ice arena in the Brighton area: Black Rock, King Alfred and the station.

A 4,000-seat stadium would provide jobs, really good recreational facilities for everyone, especially young people, and could double up as a venue for various events.

It would also give a home to the Sussex Wolves, the ice-hockey team that currently practises at Queen's Square.

A good look around our city will show any interested party we provide absolutely nothing for our youth to do.

I was very pleased to see Monica Moore (Letters, November 13) has also taken this on board, pointing out that once kids stop being cute, we abandon them to their own devices, then moan about them.

If the council can provide land for the Albion, it should do the same for our young people.
