Albion stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games in a stirring contest at Swindon this weekend.

The unstoppable Bobby Zamora lobbed the Seagulls into a 15th-minute lead, but French striker Eric Sabin struck a 58th-minute equaliser for Swindon.

The point was just enough to keep Peter Taylor's Seagulls on top of the table on goal difference.

Stoke moved into second with a 1-0 win at rock-bottom Wrexham, while Brentford have dropped to third after drawing 0-0 at home against Queens Park Rangers.

Albion, roared on by 3,000 fans in a crowd of 8,830 at the County Ground, opened brightly as Zamora struck yet again.

The irrepressible young marksman raced clear from a long clearance by Michel Kuipers to score for the seventh match running and his 16th of the season with a calm chip over Bart Griemink.

The Seagulls were pressed back by Swindon after that and Kuipers made an important stop before half time to foil Sabin when he was clean through.

Sabin made amends by converting a low cross from Wayne Carlisle after Robbie Pethick had given the ball away.

Pethick had been booked a minute earlier and his unhappy afternoon came to an abrupt end as he was immediately replaced by Lee Steele.

Swindon put Albion under pressure for most of the second half, but the Seagulls could have snatched the points late on.

The transfer-listed Danny Cullip, who exchanged angry words with Pethick twice in the first half, fired over when well placed from a Paul Watson corner.

All hell broke loose in the closing stages when Nathan Jones clashed with Swindon's Australian forward Danny Invincible.

Several players from both teams became embroiled in ugly scenes.

Referee Eddie Wolstenholme consulted at length with both of his linesmen before showing a yellow card to Jones and home defender Andy Gurney.

Albion remain undefeated in nine matches since Taylor took charge.

They bid to extend their impressive away form at Bury next Saturday.
