Drivers today faced long delays as building work began on a busy stretch of road.
Temporary traffic lights were in place on the A22, near Cophall Farm, Polegate, and drivers faced long tailbacks during the morning, Delays are likely to continue later today during the evening rush hour.
At 4pm, northbound traffic was due to be diverted into a new lane as part of bypass work expected to finish next summer.
Police warned delays were unavoidable.
