Glyn White has filled the vacancy left by cousin Terry's abrupt departure from St Leonards.

White, a former coach with County League division two Rye United, was yesterday named as the new manager.

He is the fourth man to take the helm at The Firs in three weeks.

White, 39, said: "I'm pleased to take the job, it's a big challenge. My priority is to get the side well organised, hard to beat and fitter. The team are conceding too many goals and as long as people don't expect me to turn it round overnight then we'll be all right."

Chairman John Cornelius said: "This appointment now establishes the stability that is needed. The Board were very pleased with the number of applicants for the position and had a difficult task reducing these to a shortlist of six."

White's preparations for his first match at Rugby United tomorrow will be hampered by the absence of three regulars.

Captain John Crumplin has left having unsuccessfully applied for the Saints job, Des Boateng is serving the first of his three-match suspension and recent signing Liam Barham is out of the country.

Terry White, who resigned after less than a week, will have his first free weekend during the football season for 20 years.

He said: "I don't know what to do with myself. I'm spending time with me family waiting for the phone to ring."
