Checker Cars (Gatwick) Ltd is the official airport concessionaire providing a private hire car service at Gatwick Airport, operating at both the North and South Terminals.
A recent article in The Argus stated cars operating at Gatwick Airport were found to be defective.
The licensing officers of the following borough councils, Crawley, Horsham, Reigate and Banstead, and the Public Carriage Office under the supervision of the police and Vehicle Inspectorate carried out the checks.
Although the details printed regarding offences committed were accurate, the article suggested only the official airport cars were checked.
In fact, any private hire and Hackney carriage vehicle was liable to inspection while "dropping off" at Gatwick Airport.
Incidentally, Checker Cars (Gatwick) Ltd has recently invested substantially in upgrading its fleet of vehicles, of which 12 were inspected and passed.
