An armed robber ran away empty-handed after Worthing post office workers shouted at him.
He threatened two male members of staff at the Tarring Crossing Post Office in South Street, Tarring, with a gun at 1.40pm yesterday.
They confronted the robber and, police said, told him to go "in no uncertain terms" - and he fled.
Armed police searched the area and made door-to-door inquiries. Officers later arrested a man, who remained in police custody today.
No one has been charged and today police are appealing for witnesses.
