Bobby Zamora continued his amazing scoring run for Albion last night in front of Southampton boss Gordon Strachan.

Zamora scored for the sixth game in succession in the 1-1 home draw against Peterborough.

The young hotshot's 11th minute penalty lifted his tally for the season to 15 and moved the Seagulls back above Brentford by a point.

Strachan is desperate for extra firepower to help Saints' Premiership survival hopes.

He has already tried to sign the Second Division's leading marksman Brett Ormerod from Blackpool, but Albion boss Peter Taylor played down the little Scotsman's presence at Withdean.

Taylor said: "He might have been looking at him (Zamora) or at somebody else, you never know.

"We've had no bids for Bobby since I have been at the club."

Albion were denied victory by an uncharacteristic mistake by keeper Michel Kuipers and a superlative performance from his opposite number Mark Tyler.

Kuipers let in Leon McKenzie for a simple equaliser in the 21st minute when he failed to control Danny Cullip's backpass.

Tyler added to Kuipers' misery with a string of fine saves which foiled Zamora, Cullip, Richard Carpenter, Lee Steele and Gary Hart.

Taylor said: "I thought we deserved to win. It wasn't our best performance, but it certainly wasn't our worst.

"Mark Tyler was the best player Peterborough had, which gives some idea of how the game went.

"Michel decided to have a second touch when their player was too close to him. The ball should have ended up in row Z, but he has been absolutely magnificent for us since I've been here.

"That is the first mistake he has made and he showed good character in the second half, when his kicking improved."

Luton boss Joe Kinnear has claimed on the Hatters' official website that he wants to sign Albion defender Matt Wicks, but Taylor declared: "That's news to me."

Wicks was an unused substitute last night against his old club.

Albion's Second Division promotion rivals Stoke City had to settle for a goalless draw at home to Oldham.
