I was appalled to discover every new sign that is part of the "Safe route to school" scheme had been obliterated by spray paint along the whole of the Arundel Road, Peacehaven, and St Peter's Avenue, Telscombe Cliffs.

It must have taken serious thought and a ladder to climb and vandalise every sign in both directions. Do the people who did this not realise the scheme is to protect the lives of and save injury to young children as they travel to and from school or do they have just their own selfish interests?

If they felt so strongly about this scheme, they should have gone through the democratic process - the plans had been on show for several months.

The destruction of these signs will cause extra expenditure to either replace or restore them. Who do they think is going to pay for it but themselves? The money comes directly out of council tax. I hope if people saw this act of vandalism they report it to the police. By staying quiet, they are encouraging this action and if any child is killed or injured they will have contributed to it.
