I overlook a playing field where at least two football matches are played by youngsters on Sunday mornings.

I was saddened to see, last Sunday morning, neither players nor spectators observed the two-minutes silence at 11am.

Indeed, I failed to notice any spectators wearing poppies, although I may have been mistaken.

In the not-so-distant future, when none of us is left who has experienced war, how many people then will be wearing their poppies with pride?

If it had not been for us golden oldies all those years ago, I doubt if any of those youngsters would be playing football today.
