BOXING: Horsham Amateur Boxing Club's Deakin brothers both suffered defeats during the club's dinner show at Henfield Leisure Centre.

Fifteen-year-old Robin Deakin, son of Horsham trainer Lester, took a standing eight count in the first round against John McCully (Danson Youth) in a three-round contest at 46kilos.

However, he came back strongly in the next two, breaking his opponent's nose in the process only to lose the bout on points.

Elder brother Daniel fought London-based boxer Gary Chapman in a 58kilo contest and Lester threw in the towel during the second round as his 18-year-old son struggled in his comeback bout after five years out of the ring.

Horsham ABC's Simon Hopkins was successful though, winning his 78kilo contest on points against another London-based opponent.

FOOTBALL: Commercial director Matthew Major has resigned from Worthing.

The Rebels board have come under fire in recent weeks because of cost-cutting measures introduced after their FA Cup exit.

Major said: "I am very busy at work but that is only one reason of many for my decision." Major was one of manager Sammy Donnelly's chief allies in the Worthing boardroom.

BASKETBALL: Rich Aigner has cancelled his contract with Brighton Bears without playing a match.

The former Leicester Riders star has found himself unable to force his way into the side after replacing Dave Wahl.

He had been in training with Bears, watched two matches and even been issued with the No. 24 kit.

But, with Wilbur Johnson and Michael Brown returning to form, he was unable to secure one of the two slots for overseas players not requiring work permits.

Coach Nick Nurse said: "Rich realised the league is more athletic than when he was last here. He is more of a thinker than athlete which is no bad thing, but he decided his game was better suited to mainland Europe."

Aigner is likely to rejoin Belgian club Bree.

CRICKET: England captain Nasser Hussain believes he faces the "toughest challenge" of his life in leading his inexperienced Test side on their Indian tour.

But Hussain, whose team leave today, is excited by the prospect of facing an impressive Indian team.

He said: "I'm taking a young side and it's going to test me but that is just what I need at this stage of my career."
