Bognor and Betteshanger won by narrow margins ahead of their big clash at Hampshire Avenue next Saturday.

It is getting pretty tight at the top of Four South East.

The Kent side scraped past visiting Beccehamians 20-18 while Bognor did just enough to see off Uckfield 18-16.

Bognor skipper Karl Flynn admitted: "They always give us a tough time there."

Andy Shipp scored a try and two penalties and wing Mark Gordon also went over for the visitors.

Uckfield started the game superbly. Andy Parker put Mark Poole in for a try and Nick Ridley landed a penalty to put them 8-0 up. Ridley also crossed right on the final whistle for a try which he converted.

Eastbourne slipped up with a 31-15 defeat at Guy's Hospital, who are also in the promotion battle.

They scored through Paul Newell, Sam Gower and a penalty try but had an off day with the boot and tackled poorly in the backs.

Hove trailed 17-0 after 40 tough minutes at Cranbrook. Their much changed team settled after the break and scored through Darryl Elliot but they still lost 17-5.

East Grinstead will host Horsham in the fourth round of the Intermediate Cup.

Chichester have a daunting tie at London One outfit Sutton and Epsom and Eastbourne are at home to Ipswich.

Newick visit Sheppey in the Juinor Cup, all ties to be played a week on Saturday.

Hove are off to a great start in Women's Two South East. They followed up a win over Worthing by beating Chesham 27-12 with tries from Yolandi Taylor (2), Abi Ledward, Lucy Bidwell and Gez Brown. Karin Orford added a conversion.

Depleted Crawley held on for a 5-5 draw at St Albans in One (South). Nina Dedman scored an early try and they withstood a lot of pressure.
