This is the time to enjoy eating a nice apple. What you see in the supermarkets looks very attractive but they have been grown to order and picked before full ripeness, thus selling at peak appearance.

Treat yourself and visit one of the fruit farmers.

There is an enormous difference in the flavour of fruit picked off the tree at normal ripening. Unless you have bought apples in particular in this way, you will never know what you are missing.
