Three hundred jobs could be created after plans for a casino at Brighton Marina doubled in size.

London Clubs International is to open the casino, called the Rendezvous, in the spring.

Today the company revealed it plans to double the size of the venue and has signed a deal to take over vacant floor space beneath the planned casino.

The change means the city could soon have one of the country's first "supercasinos".

The company decided to double its stake following the publication of The Budd Report by the Government's gambling review body.

It recommends changing the gaming laws and modernising the multi-million pound industry.

The report recommends the relaxing of laws relating to adult gambling activities, which means casinos will be able to offer a wider range of facilities to punters.

These could include live entertainment and Las Vegas-style slot machines with higher jackpot payouts.

Geoffrey Adlam, a director of Rendezvous Casino Club, said the first floor of the casino was due to open in February and would create 150 jobs.

Work on the second stage of the project, the ground floor, will start later when national gaming laws change. It could mean a further 150 jobs being created.

Mr Adlam said the extended casino would be one of the largest in Britain.

He said: "It will be a major leisure asset to Brighton and Hove offering a full range of gaming facilities, excellent sea view bars and restaurants and live entertainment.

"Although the post-Budd era will be intensely competitive as new casinos will be permitted anywhere in the country where local authorities consent, we have always seen Brighton and Hove as a key city because of its national destination status."
