Lewes have admitted they would prefer to switch their FA Cup first round tie to Stoke City's Britannia Stadium.

The Rooks claimed a place in round one for the first time in their 116-year history with a 2-0 win over Mangotsfield in front of a 1,802 crowd at The Dripping Pan last night.

It seems likely those fans will be heading to the Potteries on Saturday November 17.

The Dripping Pan would not be able to stage the tie on safety grounds. Other Sussex venues will be considered but chairman Terry Parris made the club's intentions clear.

Parris said: "We need to speak to the local authorities and talk to the FA immediately to decide what we are going to do.

"We won't be able to take the crowd here, so we will look at an alternative venue. The idea is to look first at Withdean Stadium but that will cause a problem as we will probably have to play it on a Sunday and I don't think that's possible. The only other alternative is to take it to Crawley.

"So the next step is to take it up to Stoke City, which we would prefer to do as a club."

Goals from Paul Stokes and Dominic Shepherd sent Lewes through and boss Jimmy Quinn revealed he had been offered support from Albion managers past and present.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted. What a fantastic night it was. We have been offered help from Peter Taylor and from Brian Horton at Port Vale, who have said they will tell us all about Stoke."
