In answer to Trevor Hopper and Nigel Freedman (Letters Extra, October 24), we at Park Lodge are not arguing our point on health grounds alone, although some people may have such concerns.

Our main point is that the proposed mast is far too big.

It will be half as tall as the building, according to the plans and drawings, with six aerials and four satellite dishes, plus a Portakabin, all built on specially-constructed metal frame and all on top of a six-floor building. We are concerned our building cannot take all that extra weight.

We acknowledge we all live in the 21st Century and we all want mobile phones, radio, TV and car radios and that none of these will work without transmitters. We believe this particular installation is far too big for this site and will be a blot on the landscape.

None of the residents of Park Lodge, nor any of our surrounding neighbours, which includes Cardinal

Newman School next door, was informed of the proposal beforehand.

We simply received a letter from our freeholders on October 13 informing us that preliminary work was to begin on October 17. I hope you now understand our concerns.
