Bognor and Littlehampton MP Nick Gibb has resigned from his position as front bench spokesman for transport, local government and the regions.
The Conservative MP will now sit on the back benches.
A party spokeswoman said: "He formerly worked in Shadow Secretary of State Theresa May's team but resigned late last night."
She gave no reason for his resignation.
