Tailbacks a mile long caused rush hour chaos last night after a three-car pile-up on a dual carriageway.

One man was taken to hospital after being injured in the crash and several other passengers were left shaken after the 6pm accident on the Brighton bypass.

Three cars collided in the outside lane of the A27 near its junction with the A23.

A BMW driver in his 40s was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with suspected whiplash injuries. His wife and three children were shaken but unharmed.

Police closed the road for about an hour causing huge queues of traffic stretching back as far as Hollingbury.
