Money's a funny thing, isn't it? Funny when you have it and not very funny when you don't.

Can't live without it, don't want to talk about it (vulgar) but always want some and would be very happy to win a large amount! It can be a drag if your local cashpoint (like mine) is frequently out of use - it means a plod into the city centre.

But fear not, for Nochex has thought of something handy that'll cheer us all up.

Nochex (No cheques - geddit?) lets you email money online. What a great way to split the drinks bill the next day when you're all horribly sober. Instead of trying desperately to work it all out on the spot, get Money Bags to cough up on the night and she can demand payment over the ether the very next day.

Cash can be sent straight into a bank account so there's no waiting around for cheques to clear. Next time you're on a girls' night out, boozing in The Lanes or clubbing on the seafront, you know what to do.

While we're talking of lovely lolly, it might be worth your knowing Alpha Telecom has introduced a pre-paid internet card. Much like a pay-as-you-go mobile phone voucher, you can now buy these beauties in newsagents and shops. Each card comes with a user name, password and dial-up access number.

Step-by-step instructions tell you what to do. You just need a functioning modem connection and to know which version of Windows you are running. You can monitor how much cash you splash or keep a tight reign on your kids' use of surf time. No unexpected bills through the post and no more direct debits.

On these wintry evenings, as the daylight fades, we light up our front rooms or studies. More and more girls hunch over monitors (posture, ladies!) at tea time and my guess is they're emailing, flirting and talking online. Oh, and doing a bit of work as well.

Tele2 is about to start providing a specially-targeted service, costing £9.99 a month, for young women who want to surf at home. It is an always on internet connection, doing away with the tiresome, multiple dial-up scenario every time you want to check for emails. It uses radio signals instead of phone lines, simultaneously freeing up the phone and ensuring no gossip slips through the (fish)net. Ahem.

It's a high-speed connection, allowing for large file transfer and downloading. Next month, the service becomes available in the Brighton and Hove area.
