I am surprised at Adam Trimingham taking such a negative view of political party conferences (The Argus, September 27).

I would have expected him to appreciate the more subtle benefits of the conference season.

It is a valuable opportunity for activists, officials and elected representatives to take stock, compare notes and make constructive suggestions.

If our conference contributes to a stronger opposition, our city and our country will benefit.

Surely that can't be a waste of time, Adam?
