New Brighton University students were handed free copies of The Argus at a fair to welcome them.
Two thousand papers were given away at the event, held in the university's Cockcroft Building on Wednesday.
More than 150 stalls were set out by staff who offered discounts and gifts to students.
Sarah Harvey, promotions manager at The Argus, said: "It really was a great success for everyone involved."
