Paul Emblen came back to haunt Albion at Worthing last night.

The former Seagull made the Reserves pay for their profligacy in a 1-0 win for ten-man Wycombe Wanderers.

Emblen, on loan to Albion from Charlton during Steve Gritt's reign, converted the only goal from the penalty spot in a fiercely contested Combination League clash at Woodside Road.

Emblen picked himself up to score in the 37th minute after keeper Will Packham brought him down. Packham was cautioned as a result by Kent ref Phil Crossley, who had his hands full.

He sent off Wycombe's Ian Simpemba on 43 minutes for a bad tackle on Daniel Harding. Albion's fullback was able to continue after treatment, but Simpemba's challenge incensed his team-mates and the game briefly threatened to get out of hand.

Emblen, who also hit a post in the second half, was among a total of seven players on the substitutes' benches for the first team fixture between the clubs 24 hours earlier.

The Albion line-up, marshalled at the back by the transfer-listed Andy Crosby, was a mixture of youth and experience.

Midfielder Shaun Wilkinson was booked early on for kicking the ball away, then struck a post with the goal gaping.

Albion: Packham; Pethick, Harding, Crosby, Wicks, Hammond, Pitcher, Melton, Sansom, Marney, Wilkinson. Subs: Virgo, Bryant, Hemsley, Wojciechowski for Wilkinson (withdrawn 46), Jackson for Pitcher (withdrawn 62).
