Hill picks the ball up in his own half and passes it to Hill, Hill beats his man beautifully and spreads out wide to Hill on the right - a commentator's nightmare.

Fortunately for the likes of John Motson, commentaries on Division Five of the Brighton, Hove and District Football League are not a common occurrence.

Otherwise covering Hove Palmeira would give anyone a headache.

To say the side are a close-knit outfit is a huge understatement. They know one another intimately, as most of them are related.

Manager Stephen Streeter's two brother-in-laws are both in the side, and probably just as well too.

Peter Hill and Bruce Hill are the lynchpins of the team. Peter's son Gavin is right-back and his nephew Huw Borland is a regular too.

Bruce, 46, bosses the midfield alongside his two sons Alan, 24, and Mark, 25.

He admitted: "I always wanted to play football with them when they were little.

"Now it's an incentive to keep fit. The only reason I play is because of them and if they weren't in the team I wouldn't play either.

"There have been amusing incidents. I scored a volley from 25 yards but these days I say it was 40."

Mark Hill said: " Last season dad was the top scorer until the last game of the year when I scored two to beat him.

"He wasn't too happy about that. And there's the 40-yard volley we haven't stopped hearing about."

But generally Mark was very positive about playing football with his dad and family.

"It is great," he said. "My dad and I stroll around and let my younger brother Alan do all the running.

"We have a good understanding. It is probably going to be dad's last season in the game after a lifetime of playing so I'm pleased to team up with him.

"Dad adds a mature edge style of captaincy to the team. He tends to encourage everyone rather than rant."

Surprisingly Mark said the fact there are four Hills in the team has never been a problem.

"We don't have names on the back of our shirts, there would be no point really. I think because of the make-up of our team we are pretty laid back.

"I'm not exactly about to start swearing in-front of my family. And because we all know one another very well it helps in terms of camaraderie.

"There's no way we would all fall out over the football.

"We know we can depend on each other and after matches everyone always ends up down the Hove Palmeira for a few drinks."

Manager Stephen Streeter added: " We have another couple of brothers in the team too. John Bachelor is our goalkeeper and Gavin plays alonside him in defence.

"It is not too bad, it works in our favour because Bruce and Peter are that much older than than the other players and get a lot of respect.

"It runs ever so well, it really does. Unfortunately you wouldn't think so from looking at our results. We only got 12 points last season."

With four points already this season it would appear there could be happier times ahead for the Hills and their extended family this year.
